How to Throw a 4th of July Themed Family Party

4th of July is one of my favorite holidays! Apart from the hotdogs, hamburgers, backyard games and fireworks, I LOVE celebrating the freedoms that we have as Americans! One of our favorite ways to celebrate is spending the day with family. Let’s talk about it so you too can get your brain working on some fun things to do to celebrate the MANY blessings we have in this awesome life God has given each of us.

The FOOD!
I don’t know about your family, but a get-together just wouldn’t be complete without an abundance of food! We always do potluck style with side dishes coordinated among our family and friends. BYO Meat! This makes it is easy on the host, and also provides an eclectic smorgasbord of foods. From pasta salad, to cheesy potato casserole, to delicious salads and ice cream, we have it all! And now I’m hungry…

The FESTIVITIES!
Getting together is a lot of fun, but adding a few extra touches can turn a get-together into a party! Here are a few SIMPLE and inexpensive ways you can add a touch of patriotism to your party.

– Flags – You can purchase American Flags for a reasonable price. I love lining my sidewalk with flags for people to walk by as they approach the house.
– Centerpieces – A few years back, I used old watering cans and filled them with fresh cut flowers. I then took one of the flags and tucked it into the arrangement. This made for a very elegant focal point that people were having fun admiring.
– Red/White/Blue plates and napkins – Even functional items can be patriotic and add to the festivities!

The FUN!
It’s such a joy to see everyone sitting around and “yacking” with each other. It makes my heart swell as I look around at all my loved ones and know that I truly am blessed with a wonderful family and a wonderful nation! While we could all talk for the next 2 years and not run out of things to say, it’s always fun to have a few games set up to play. We love having cornhole, bocce ball and other backyard games set up to add a little competitive element of fun!

The FREEDOM!
Even with all of the activities we have planned throughout the day, we always take a moment to remember what the 4th of July is all about…. Freedom. We live in a country that was founded by the oppressed and downtrodden. With God’s blessings, this nation has turned into a great nation and a world leader because it was founded on Godly principals. We often take for granted all of our freedoms, but there are countries around the world that are not allowed the freedoms we have… such as freedom of religion. To honor this freedom, we will be sitting down as a family and doing devotions. A great family devotional is the Duck Commander Devotions for Kids.

The FIREWORKS!
The 4th of July just wouldn’t be complete without ending the day with an amazing display of fireworks. Just as the… “And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.”

May we never forget that freedom isn’t free, but have fun celebrating this 4th of July a nation that is FREE and exercise your liberties!! What fun traditions do you all have with your family?
