It’s Halloween night and kids out of school
are dressed like a witch, a vampire, a ghoul.
These scary masks cover each sweet little face
as children run rampant all over the place.
Their quest is for candy; their goal is to make
their hearts race with sugar and tummies to ache!
With laughter they run, skipping with joy,
each innocent girl and sweet little boy.
From house to house they shout “trick or treat”
in hopes of getting something yummy and sweet.
Hidden by darkness and masked by this “merry”
haunts something that’s dark and sinister and scary.
Ghosts and goblins will stalk through the night,
hoping to catch bystanders in great fright.
But there will be a sweet princess frolicking along,
humming a tender and innocent song.
As a mother, I know that God is right there
when my soul cries out a deep heartfelt prayer.
My prayer is that my sweet little girl
would be a light in this dark, scary world.
Halloween can be a bleak, fearful night,
but I pray my child will be an ever present light,
that shows the dark world the love of the KING…
the kind of love that makes her little heart sing.
She says please and thank you as she goes door to door;
I see adults smiling and handing her more.
Despite the darkness of Halloween night,
I pray my daughter will be the bright Light.
She might be the only glimpse of Jesus they see
as she smiles and waves and shares her candy with me.
Yes, my prayer is for light on a dark, scary night.
For joy unexplainable amidst every fright.
For my child to shine on the outside and in
So the world can see where true joy can begin.
It begins with JESUS, the truth and the way,
Our anchor, our stronghold, our strength and our stay.
What is your prayer for your children and your community this Halloween? How can your family be a light this year?
