Word of the Year

I always pick a word for each new year. A word to be focus, my reminder, my goal.

Two years ago was PRIORITIES.

Last year was FOLLOW-THROUGH.

I’m happy to report that each word has actually helped me “stay the course” more than any other New Year’s resolution has in the past. {And writing about it also gives me a little extra accountability!}

I was hesitant to pick a word for this year, but God gave me one anyway so I’m going with it…

NEW.

It is nothing like my previous words, but I know it is THE word for myself and our family this year and I know He will unveil more as we go.

A few things we KNOW will be NEW this year…

*Baby boy #3 is due at the end of February.

*The hubby will officially become a doctor at the beginning of May.

*We will move to somewhere we have never lived as a family before in early summer. And we won’t know that location until mid-March.

Those things alone are more than enough NEW to make me nervous, and I’m sure they won’t be the only NEW we encounter.

But I also know that almost every time God uses the word NEW in Scripture, it is a VERY good thing.

I am clinging to His Word in this NEW year to bring me hope…

He put a NEW song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD. ~Psalm 40:3

Behold, I am doing a NEW thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. ~Isaiah 43:19

You were wearied with the length of your way, but you did not say, “It is hopeless”; you found NEW life for your strength, and so you were not faint. ~Isaiah 57:10

And I will give you a NEW heart, and a NEW spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. ~Ezekiel 36:26

And the one I need to hear the most as we enter this year of all things NEW…

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are NEW every morning; great is your faithfulness. ~Lamentations 3:22-23

Whatever NEW comes our way this year, I will face it all with hope and the reminder that, although it may not go as we envision, He is the one who leads us to and through the NEW with grace and NEW mercies every day.

Happy NEW Year to you and yours!
