I started my collection of children’s Christmas books before we even had children. Yes, I was a music teacher, so most of them were for my classroom, but I couldn’t wait for the day I could snuggle up to read them with my own little ones. My oldest is now 10 and reading Christmas books with him and his two younger brothers by the fire, the tree lit up in the background, is one of my favorite parts of Christmas.
We’ve always been a reading family, so books are a great Christmas gift for all of us! We started the love of books early in our household and here are some of our favorites you could give as gifts for the littlest members of your household (ages 5 and under).
Christmas Gift Guide (age 0-5 years)
Itsy Bitsy Christmas by Max Lucado – Even the title is adorable! I always love Max Lucado’s words and his children’s books are just delightful. This sweet book tells the Christmas story and teaches your little ones they are loved by a great God!
Tipper Tells a Lie and Diggit Saves the Day by Andy Holmes – These books from the “Building God’s Kingdom” series were a huge hit with my house of boys! The books teach great lessons about character and faith through construction vehicle characters.
God Bless Our Christmas by Hannah C. Hall and Steve Whitlow – I was immediately drawn to the cute little penguin on the cover and your little ones will love all the sweet animals enjoying all things winter and Christmas in this board book made just for little hands!
Grandma Kisses by Laura Neutzling – This would be the perfect gift for a grandma to give her grandchild! I love the relationship our children have with their grandmas and this book highlights all the sweet moments they share together. Have the book at your house for when Grandma visits or keep it at Grandma’s house to share when you take a trip to see her!
One Small Donkey by Dandi Daley Mackall – Read the Christmas story with your little one from a new perspective – the donkey Mary rode to Bethlehem! This is the sweetest story with the most darling illustrations that teaches kids that God has big plans for all of us – even a donkey!
I may not have toddlers in the house anymore, but I still have a soft spot for the board books and picture books we enjoyed so much during those early years. I still pull them out every year and we read them with fond memories. These wonderful books will make great gifts and find a place in your hearts and homes this Christmas!
