I never realized “I Hate Valentine’s Day” parties were an actual thing.

The other day I found a web page dedicated to Valentine’s-hating party ideas.  Honestly, I can understand how some people might dislike Valentine’s Day.  Some argue that it is just another marketing opportunity for candy, card, and gift companies.  Some people are opposed because all the focus on romantic love highlight’s singleness in a painful way.

I can understand those arguments, but I can’t share the feeling – and not because I have never experienced a Valentine’s Day as a single person.  I have spent more Valentine’s “alone” than with a significant other.  But even through those years when the pressure to have a boyfriend was on, I didn’t hate Valentine’s Day, and I credit that largely to the way my parents handled Valentine’s Day during my childhood.

Now, as a parent myself, there are three reasons that I think Valentine’s Day is worth celebrating with my children.  Read more about why I think you should celebrate Valentine’s Day with your kids!
