Strive to Be Sincere

“Mama look,” he utters as he rearranges his soldiers, but I continued to read. He didn’t sound excited.

A minute later, “Look Mama.” Sounded like he was saying the words out of habit; I didn’t reply.

“Mama! Look at my battlefield!” His insistence made me sit up, lean forward, and comment on what he had laid out.

Sometimes I wonder if I call on my Heavenly Father with the same nonchalance.
“Father look, I’m going to church.” No excitement.
“Look Father, I’m doing good works for you.” How much is habit?
“Father, I come to you during my quiet time. I have specific needs to lay before you and burdens on my heart. Hear my prayer.”

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge
and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye
may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ
