New Life Springs Forth!

As spring makes its appearance this month {which is my favorite month of the year, by the way}, birth and new life are a BIG topic at our house.

Especially with the arrival of this guy…

Baby J arrived Wednesday, March 7th at 6:20pm and the whole family is smitten. It’s hard to imagine so much love in one house until you actually witness it!

Now, when Little J was born, Big J had just turned two. There weren’t a lot of conversations between him and I about birth and babies and the miracle of new life. We mostly talked about using “loving hands” and being gentle around baby.

The conversations with a 5 ½ and 3 ½ year old are much different when a baby arrives.

“How did he come out of you?”

“Did I come out the same way?”

“Why does he do THAT?”

Oh my, a new baby AND these questions – I’m not sure I can handle both at the same time!

I do, however, greatly appreciate the opportunity to have these conversations about the miracle of birth and life with these curious minds, so I’m counting all the questions as blessings!

And I tried to my best to prepared ahead of time with verses to discuss both the birth of babies AND the new life that comes when we are reborn as Christians!

Here are the verses I’ve focused on…

*Psalm 139

I adore this psalm. It not only talks about the care God takes in creating each and every one of us, but also about the love He has for us every day of our lives.

*Acts 17:24-25

The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else.

*2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

*John 3

This is Jesus’ teaching on spiritual birth. I love this passage because Nicodemus questions what Jesus tells him. We should invite our children to ask questions when they don’t understand something, especially in the area of faith. Children who blindly accept what their parents and church leaders tell them without researching and questioning for themselves will have trouble when their own faith and beliefs are questioned.

What a joy new life of any kind is in our lives!

What are you doing this spring to celebrate the new life springing forth around you?
