The Holy Spirit gives you God’s special power to love (Romans 5:5).
I like to think of God’s Holy Spirit living in our hearts like a battery in a flashlight. Without a battery, a flashlight looks fine on the outside. But when it’s dark, and you need to use it, no matter how good it looks on the outside, it doesn’t work.
Now, a flashlight with a battery might look the same on the outside as the flashlight without a battery. But when it’s dark, and you need to use it, it works! The flashlight with a battery shines the light into the darkness. It shows you where you are going. It protects you from stumbling or falling. It might even save your life!
God’s Holy Spirit is like our special spiritual battery!
The Holy Spirit gives us the power to tell right from wrong. He gives us the power to care more about other people. He gives us the power to think and act more like Jesus. He opens our minds to understanding God’s Word in the Bible.
Most importantly, God’s Holy Spirit gives us the special power to shine the light of God’s love in a fallen and hurting world – just like Jesus did when He was here on earth.
