Bible Verses to Remember When Times Are Tough

Illness.
Job loss.
Death of a loved one.
Scary parenting trials.

We’ve all had those times, and we’ve all persevered to get where we are today. But how? How do you gather yourself up and face the storm?

For me, times of great trial lead me one place – to my knees.
I know I should pray equally hard during the good times, but if I’m honest, there is a fervor to my prayers during hard times that just isn’t there other times. I need Him always, but I NEED Him during times of difficulty.

Can you relate? I know I’m not the only one.

And what about our kids? They too have hard times – anxiety, friendship troubles, school woes, disappointments – and they need to learn to cope as well.

Finding solace in God’s words is a comfort both for us and for our kids, and we can do well to help our kids to learn to turn to the One who will never fail them.

Here are some words that I – and my kids – find reassuring when times are tough:

Isaiah 40:28 – Surely you know. Surely you have heard. The Lord is the God who lives forever. He created all the world. He does not become tired or need to rest. No one can understand how great his wisdom is.

Isaiah 40:30-31 – Even boys become tired and need to rest. Even young men trip and fall. But the people who trust the Lord will become strong again. They will be able to rise up as an eagle in the sky. They will run without needing rest. They will walk without becoming tired.

Jeremiah 29:11 – I say this because I know what I have planned for you,” says the Lord. “I have good plans for you. I don’t plan to hurt you. I plan to give you hope and a good future.

Romans 8:28 – We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love him. They are the people God called, because that was his plan.

Matthew 11:28-30 – “Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads. I will give you rest. Accept my work and learn from me. I am gentle and humble in spirit. And you will find rest for your souls. The work that I ask you to accept is easy. The load I give you to carry is not heavy.”

Joshua 1:9 – Remember that I commanded you to be strong and brave. So don’t be afraid. The Lord your God will be with you everywhere you go.

Psalm 46:1 – God is our protection and our strength. He always helps in times of trouble.
