The Boy Who Changed the World is my first children’s book. While looking forward to the project, the excitement really hit me one day when I was at the pool with my two sons, who are 8 and 10 years old. I was having a conversation with someone and mentioned that my first children’s book would be coming out in a few months. Adam, my 8-year-old, overheard and, without hesitation, blurted out, “My daddy read The Boy Who Changed the World to me and I loved it! It’s the best thing he’s ever written!” So that’s when I got excited⎯when I saw that my own son was excited.
I wrote The Boy Who Changed the World because I wanted to prove to our children that everything they do matters. I wanted to go beyond simple encouragement. I wanted to PROVE to them that they can do great things every day!
I had seen how well adults had responded to another short, gift book of mine, The Butterfly Effect. So I decided to take that story and present it in a way that children could understand and relate to. Tommy Nelson found an amazing illustrator named Philip Hurst, who was able to bring life to the story’s words with vibrant illustrations that truly are beautiful.
Ever since Polly and I had our first child a little over 10 years ago, kids have been a huge part of my life. It’s great to finally have written a book that shows them the great things they are capable of doing. There are few things I enjoy more than sitting down with my two boys and reading a story together. If there are children in your life, I encourage you to pick up a book and read with them this holiday season. Make memories together as you prove how much they matter to us all!
