A Prayer for the Mother Yet To Be

Prayer for Mother yet to be

You see her at the grocery store, sitting beside you in church, walking by you at the mall. She wasn’t there before…or perhaps you didn’t notice.  Because it’s not until your heart is longing to carry life within that you notice the growth of life around. That pregnant mama (or mamas)…the one(s) you see everywhere you go…the one you long to be…maybe the life she carries can offer hope instead of pain. Because every child is a miracle, long awaited or a surprise. This is a truth I’ve only come to know after much pain experienced in the waiting.

I don’t know your story, friend, but I know the One who writes it. I don’t know how hard it’s been or how hard it may become before you see your promise fulfilled but I know the goodness of God. I have walked the long and tiring path of waiting for life. There is a sweetness that comes in the waiting if we wait with hope. Hope that submits to the Creator of life. Hope that patiently awaits the blessing of life with joy.

And when we walk in hope, oh how he meets us in the waiting. . .

with a faith that expects. . .

with a peace that dwells deep. . .

with a love that begins even before our child is conceived.

My daughter (my first of two miracle children) is named Hope. She came to us after a long road of infertility and multiple miscarriages. Her life is my daily reminder that no matter the road we travel towards seeing his promises fulfilled, we have access to a hope that does not disappoint.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing.” Romans 15:13

A Prayer for the Mother Yet to Be

Oh, God, I know you understand my longing to be a mother. Your very hand that wove together this empty womb intricately created the process by which life would enter it. But I am weary, Lord, because life has not yet come. God, help me to trust in your timing and that you will work every detail of this story together for our growth and your glory. I pray that faith would rise up from the depths of my soul, that peace would rule my waiting heart and that love would begin to take root as I wait for my child. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on you, the Author and Creator of life. Thank you for the hope of life. Thank you for the grace to wait as you write the story of our family. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Are you waiting for the promise of a child? Whether you long for your first, second or fifth. . .the challenge to wait with hope is the same. How can we partner with you in prayer, believing with you for life to come?

0718016319As we enter into 2015 and all the hope that a new year brings, the entire month of January here at TommyNelson.com will be dedicated to prayer. Each week we will be praying for three specific types of parents. There will be prayers for expectant mothers, prayers for mothers of boys and girls and teens and small children. Prayers for homeschooling mothers and single parents. We hope these prayers meet you where you are and encourage you in a special way!

Please join us in using the first month of this year to pray over your family, your children, and yourself!

Also this month, we are celebrating the release of Lucado Treasury of Bedtime Prayers: Prayers for bedtime and every time of day! Max and Denalyn firmly believe that prayer is the foundation of a believer’s life, and they hope that this book will introduce your children to a lifetime of conversation with God!
