Sometimes you just need a boost of love. Between holidays and elections and keeping up with school, work, kids, church, etc. we all need a love-boost!
There’s no place better to find that boost than the Bible. It is filled with love. Love for us, love for one another, and love for God. His love is so full and complete that there’s enough for everyone.
While there are plenty of Bible verses that are specifically about love, I want to explore those that do a little digging into your life. The verses that shine a light on some tough areas that we don’t like to talk about. That’s where the real love is, in the places we like to hide and He loves us still. It’s easy to love someone when you don’t know their flaws or quirks. But when you see everything, I mean the whole mess, and still love them….well that’s the best.
Here are 5 verses that make me feel loved because He knows me and wants to help me move away from my sin.
“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us out sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:8-9
How amazing is that?! He loves us bypointing out our sin and releasing us from its bondage. This is love in a way we never experience any way but through God. If we stay in our sin we are always trapped in a mess that leads to our destruction.
“For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
His Word is a gift to us! He shows us His love by piercing our soul and showing us our hearts. I know I can tend to try to bury my weaknesses, and God comes along with His Word and reminds me. He loves me too much to let me stay the way I am.
“My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul and will cover a multitude of sins.” James 5:19-20
This is so encouraging to me. We need each other! I want to help my friends and I sincerely hope my true friends want to help me too. It’s hard to point a friend to truth sometimes, but it’s what you do when you really love someone.
“Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.” James 5:16
Confession is hard. It can be downright scary to tell someone that you’ve been doing something you shouldn’t. But once it’s done the relief is enormous. And when you confess your sins to a godly friend, you can count on them to love you and pray for you. When you sense that nudge to admit your struggles to a friend, do it. There’s great love there!
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race that has been set before us.” Hebrews 12:1
This is a favorite verse of mine. God is urging us to throw off the entanglements that keep us trapped in our mess. He loves us SO much that He sets a beautiful race before each of us and equips us to run it even when it gets tough. Wow that’s comforting.
In today’s society we are pushed to accept sin, to embrace it even! God loves us enough to tell us no….we must turn away from it no matter what it makes us feel. If we obey Him, the feelings will follow. Not the other way around.
Whatever you are dealing with, hidden or open, if it is sin I urge you to see the love of God in these verses and let Him give you the strength to move away from those burdens. I know this not only because it says so in the Bible, but because I have experienced it for myself. I am a sinner and have had to do plenty of confessing and repenting and I will have plenty more to do in the future. I can tell you, when you finally give it to God and let go of control (which is imaginary anyway) you will find peace. You will find a never ending love-boost!
For a look at some love verses for the kiddos, be sure to pick up Little Book of God’s Love. Use it to share with them what God’s love is and lead them into that race that is set before them.
I am praying for you!
