Hi everyone! My name is Traci and I’m a wife to Tim and mother to three beautiful children (ages 6, 3, and 1). I’m so happy to be writing over here at Tommy Nelson! I’m a tom-boy turned HGTV junkie, I love the outdoors, and I’m passionate about God’s Word and getting it into the hearts of children.
My daughter is back to school and now in full day, full-fledged first grade. I just cannot believe it. I remember looking at her cherub face the moment I delivered her thinking those days of fragile infancy would last forever. They sure haven’t; they’ve only flown by.
Getting back into a routine after a long, fun Summer took some work. We’ve developed a make-shift schedule surrounding school time. She gets up, eats breakfast, brushes her teeth, gets dressed, and then comes downstairs to have her devotion time before the school bus arrives. She reads from 100 Devotions, 100 Bible Songs.
After only just a short week of school, she now grabs the book on her own and starts reading. I love the idea of getting our children accustomed to a regular devotion time from a young age!
Just a couple months ago she said something that will forever be ingrained in my mind. She said, “Mommy, I don’t want to read any of my normal books, I want to read my Bible because I want to be just like you!”
That just melted my heart as a Mama! Sometimes I get discouraged because balancing three children under 5 years old has left me scrambling to do my devotion time while my kids are awake. But then I realized something, God had a purpose for this and it was to show my kids the importance of Mommy reading her Bible. I’m setting the example for them. They are watching.
Do your children have a quiet time with the Lord? It’s never too early to start instilling God’s Word into their little hearts!

Traci is a curly-headed dreamer who loves her Savior, adores her best friend called Hubby, and her three children! She never knew how much she would love being at home full time with her kids, but she does (most days)! What a privilege and high calling! She loves to blog, take pictures, cook, decorate cakes, and make her home cozy and inviting! She also enjoys teaching women God’s Word through Bible studies at church and online devotions. It is her desire to glorify God through encouraging and edifying other women. It is her heart’s cry to motivate women to abide in Christ, respect their spouse, and raise their little ones to know the love of Jesus. God’s grace captivates her in such a way that she wants her life to make a difference for His glory.

Traci — this so reminds me of my little girl when she was this age. We would sit on the front steps and wait for the school bus while we did our devotions. God gave us that special time (while a baby was still sleeping upstairs!) to connect with HIM first thing!
Thank you for sharing this awesome post and for training your children God’s Word!
That is so precious Mary! It’s so important to take those opportunities to connect with our children! Love, Traci
You are very welcome Trisha! Thanks for stopping by!
We love using the Jesus Storybook Bible! And I can so relate to that feeling of frustration- to not have time alone to spend with the Lord. BUT it IS huge for our kids to see us enjoying God’s Word. One of the sweetest things for me is when my kids grab their Bibles and sit on the couch and “read” right along side me. Such a blessing!
I love your post…
I love that you are such a great mama and instilling such awesome habits and values in your children.
I love that you have curly hair and are a dreamer.
I love that you seek God and desire to create happy memories for your family.
I love your post!
I love that you are MY Daughter!
What a great way to start the day!!!
We pray and do scripture memory together.
How precious! What a great example you are setting for your kids!
Traci – I love this post! The pictures are awesome
Thanks for sharing about this special time and the great devotional book you used! I will look into it – it looks great!
Praise God for your commitment to being a stay-at-home mom . . . I appreciate how encouraging your blogs are to those in the midst of raising children and to us whose children are raising their children.
I remember a 5 year old girl and her 4 year old sister memorizing over 50 scripture verses before she went to bed each night. Thank You for being such a wonderful daughter and now mother to my 3 blessed grandchildren.
Oh Traci – what a sweet post! (Of course…I do know that’s the ONLY kind you know how to write!=) What an honor to be blogging at tommy nelson eh??? You are such a wonder, woman! And a Wonder Woman too! XO
